January 06

This next game is one of my all time favorites. It probably is what skyrocketed my love of real time strategy (RTS) games to the top. Again this is another game that my brother brought to me. If I recall, he got it for me for Christmas one year. At the time of him giving it to me, I’m fairly certain he thought it was too advanced for me. It was. But I didn’t let that stop me from playing it nonstop.

Metal Fatigue in my opinion was victim of being too advanced for its era. Because of this, it didn’t do as well as it should have. This game pushed you in ways others didn’t. Three very distinct races. Not one, not two, but three different areas of the map. Orbit, surface, and underground. Research items from different races that you could pillage. Did I mention GIANT ROBOTS?! This game had everything you could ever want in a game. Many unit types, and tactics that are exclusive to the games mechanics. The story wasn’t bad in the campaign either.

Basic UI but lots of elements to keep track of

This game took lots of time to get good at, but was so much fun to play even in freeplay. The only downside was it didn’t have good multiplayer support, and the AI of the game seemed to get strange if the matched dragged on too long. I preferred to play as MilAgro as their ‘combots’ were heavily armored. Its a shame the company that made this game basically went under right after its release. If I had the knowledge, I would love to remaster this game and release it into the wild. I bet it would make waves now. Theres only a few RTS games out there right now worth playing. I always hoped someone would do it, but unfortunately I don’t think its ever going to happen. Shame.
